Course Description: This studio class will take a single product-paper, and work out the historical, economic, scientific, social and mathematical properties that are inherent in its use and production introducing the participant to numerous art techniques in design, used to create a variety of pieces all to be integrated in a final project weave. This course will introduce educators to teaching practices linking arts integration and the Five Core Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Competencies and the Six Pillars of a Brave Space, exploring alternative materials that represent and affirm student identities: creating independent works for self-awareness examination, independent thinking and problem solving, time management in designing and completion of artworks through setting and achieving positive goals; creating social awareness by sharing feelings and showing empathy through collaborating on projects and conducting positive critiques for relationship skill development within a culturally responsive sustaining context. Participants create hands-on art projects that reflect the individual’s unique cultural experiences. |
