Course Details
Course Description: Are your students experiencing stress or unhealthy social dynamics that hinder optimal learning? Do you find it challenging to foster healthy relationships with and among your students? Then you will appreciate this course that explores the vital connection between stress, relationships, and learning. In this course entitled "'The Social Brain': Relationships, Stress, & Optimal Learning", participants learn foundational principles related to the brain’s structure, functioning, and development, especially related to relationships and stress, in order to better create, through definite actions, a conducive learning environment. Optimal stress levels are examined, and ways to manage and reduce stress are addressed. Attachment theory is discussed, and classroom relationships evaluated as to whether they enhance or diminish the students’ capacity for learning. Practical ways to improve the health of relationships in the social environment of the classroom and school are provided, to ensure more optimal learning and to prevent bullying (one of the most prevalent and damaging experiences for students’ health, learning, functioning and well-being) and teacher burnout (a serious threat to the quality of education, since teaching is such a socially demanding, critical role). Material supports online, blended, and traditional classroom settings.
