Course Description: This self-paced professional development course is designed to empower PK-12 educators with the tools and strategies needed to foster inclusive classrooms that embody a Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-SE) approach to teaching, tolerance, and language development. Through an exploration of student diversity, ableism, and culturally responsive principles, participants will gain the knowledge needed to honor and leverage students' diverse backgrounds as assets for learning. Similarly, they will gain practical insights into sheltered instruction techniques to support the English language learners, who are increasingly included in GE classrooms. Ultimately, this course equips teachers with adaptable instructional practices, including scaffolding and differentiated instruction, to meet the needs of all learners, while also seeing the value of inclusive education rather than its perceived drawbacks. Through a mix of research-packed lectures, thought-provoking multimedia content, self-reflective activities and group discussions, educators will refine their teaching approaches, ensuring every student feels valued and is thus well-positioned to succeed. |
