Course Description: Do you want to heighten the level of student engagement in your approach to math instruction? Do you believe that students have multiple approaches to solving problems, from which others can learn and on which you could guide further learning? Do you need ways to improve online or blended math instruction? Then this is just the course for you! This is an introductory course on "Cognitively Guided Instruction", a research-based approach to teaching mathematics, especially in elementary schools, although the principles apply to other content areas and all grade levels. This specific course seeks to enhance an instructor’s ability to implement any mathematical curriculum. As a teaching professional, you will learn how to master teaching mathematics by learning how to listen to your students, understand your students’ thinking, and provide support for your students’ mathematical learning. This course will define CGI Math and the benefits of using it. You will be guided in your first steps of implementing CGI in your own class in alignment with Next Generation Learning Standards. Participants will learn how to better plan for mathematical activities in their classroom and enhance their mathematical instruction. Emphasis is placed on applying content to online and blended learning environments as necessitated by current national and global events. |
