Resources for Families
As we think ahead to the school year, our thoughts are with you and families and students who are trying to navigate an uncertain future in New York City. The ASPDP team includes a parent and former teachers, and we are committed to supporting you and your families just as we support our children and our own students.
We’ve heard from families that it’s been challenging to find information about remote learning and plans for next year, and wanted to share resources that you can share with your own families:
Information on Remote Learning (includes FAQs for students with special needs, multilingual learners, and information on grading and assessment)
This family engagement toolkit includes sample parent letters, family engagement schedules, and translation resources for communication with families
Building Partnerships with Families and Students (free collection on WeTeachNYC)
Want to talk to someone?
Contact your FACE (Family and Community Empowerment) Liaisons or Contact the DOE; note that translation services are available in more than 200 languages
Check in with your school’s parent coordinator (remember they may need support, too)
The DOE plans to offer Family and Student Information Sessions beginning in July (including July 28, August 12, and August 27). For more information, check this page under "Family and Student Information Sessions": https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-year-20-21/return-to-school-2020.
If you are interested in pursuing professional learning to prepare for students’ return this fall – and knowing that you may be teaching summer school, and/or supporting your own children at home – you are still welcome in ASPDP courses over the summer to earn A+ credit toward your salary differential and CTLE hours.
If you haven’t registered for any summer courses yet, you can use discount code “THANKYOUTEACHERS” to save 25% off a single purchase through September 3, 2020. (Note that this code may only be used once, and cannot be applied retroactively if you have already completed your transaction.)
Most of our online, self-paced courses end registration on August 14, and you can complete coursework on your own schedule until the last day of the course. Try using search filters like “Family Engagement,” “Technology”, and “Culturally Responsive Instruction” to find courses that will support your students this fall, or search by specific content area. If you’d prefer to wait until the fall, our fall courses will open for registration on September 7th, and the semester runs from September 21st - January 8th, 2021.
We hope that you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy, and appreciate all that you do to build a better future in New York City.
