P019-11932.1F22 - Music: the Sounds of Math, Science, and Social Studies

Course Details
Course Description: This course is designed for teachers to integrate music into the classroom through fun and simple techniques, learning basic concepts found in music while designing a series of hands-on indigenous inspired instruments made from reusable materials to experiment on and compose rhythms with. This course will introduce educators to teaching practices linking arts integration and the Five Core Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Competencies, exploring alternative materials that represent and affirm student identities: creating independent works for self-awareness examination, independent thinking and problem solving, time management in designing and completion of artworks through setting and achieving positive goals; creating social awareness by sharing feelings and showing empathy through collaborating on projects and conducting positive critiques for relationship skill development within a culturally responsive sustaining context. By providing a global immersion into the study and production of music, participants can use their personal experiences, the diverse culture of the school’s student body and reference numerous compositions from around the world as effective ways to explore SEL and CR-SDP for a deeper understanding of the school culture and the global community.
