Course Description: This course is designed for teachers who are interested in offering their students a deeper investigation of STEAM through project-based learning by using reusable materials and technology. Educators will learn teaching practices that provide for the needs of all student learners by creating brave learning spaces to explore alternative materials that represent and affirm student identities for independent thinking and problem solving. Participants create hands-on art projects and animated video clips that reflect the individual’s unique personal, cultural experiences that teach them how to inspire their students to be able to share about their own identity and culture. Once daily projects are completed, the work gives voice to the creator as each participant is given equal time for presentation of experiences, beliefs, and traditions in both small and large group share outs. This course infuses Project Based Learning into CR-SE, through this methodology, educators are provided asynchronous time to explore materials and create projects that they can integrate into Inclusive Curriculum Units of study, using multiple, non-dominant voices in research as resources to explore identity, power and bias found in traditional teachings of literacy, math, science, and social studies. |
