Course Description: Based on Dr. Gholdy Muhammad’s work in her 2020 book “Cultivating Genius,” this introductory course supports participants in unpacking a five-layered framework, the HILL Model, to plan for culturally and historically responsive literacy across all content areas and explore how to cultivate young people’s identities, skills, intellect, criticality, and joy. With colleagues from across the NYCDOE, participants will engage with five asynchronous modules of inquiry, practice, and action, and then complete a final action research project. Through each interactive and multimodal module, you will engage in knowledge building of the five pursuits (identity, skills, intellect, criticality, and joy) in the HILL Model, self-reflection to unpack current beliefs and practices around the pursuits, and action research with real-time student input. |
